Network services

The basic Internet protocol, IPv4, defined in 1981, still forms the basis for most network services. However, IPv4 connectivity is no longer the only network service that education and research users need. ARNES is also one of the earliest adopters of IPv6 in Europe.

Arnes offers a whole range of services:

  • IP connectivity: both IPv4 and IPv6, quality assurance, bandwidth on demand and diagnostic testing of connections.
  • Dedicated point-to-point connections: multi-gigabit connections for demanding projects.
  • Eduroam: system of roaming network access using wireless connections (WiFi).
  • Hosting DNS servers: these convert IP addresses and computer/service names.
  • NTP services: enables accurate time to be set automatically over the network.
